NJDOT Route 295/195 Interchange

On August 20, 1991, George Harms Construction Co., Inc. was the low responsive bidder on the second largest construction project ever bid by the NJDOT to construct the Rt. 295 and Rt. 195 Interchange in Trenton, NJ. This project was an environmentally sensitive project constructed entirely in the wetland area adjacent to the Delaware River.

This project was part of the major highway construction eventually connecting the City of Trenton with Interstates 195 & 295.

This project involved the construction of a new 2½ mile stretch of New Jersey Rt. 24 extending Rt. 24 and tying into Interstate Rt. 287. The project required the construction of five new highway bridges, 800,000 cy of excavation and placement of on-site material, together with the construction of 750,000 cy of imported embankment material from off-site. The project also included 200,000 cy of wet excavation and backfilling and the construction of over 110,000 tons of asphalt pavement.

Contract #W-4503 was one of the many NJ Turnpike contracts associated with the widening and reconstruction of Interchange 8A. This contract involved the construction of new substructures, new bridge decks, drainage and roadway construction.

This project was owned by the Forrestal Center Corp., a private entity in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The project involved the construction of approaches, roadway and a bridge over existing U.S. Rt. 1 in Plainsboro, New Jersey.

This project involved the construction in two phases of a new Rt. 35 bridge over Matawan Creek in the Borough of Keyport and the demolition and removal of the existing Rt. 35 lift bridge.

The work of this contract consisted of the construction of the Burlington County Solid Waste Facility located in Florence Township. The contract was broken down into four stages, each with its own completion date and liquidated damages.

This project involved the extension of a previously completed section of New Jersey Rt. 33 in Freehold, New Jersey. The project involved the construction of embankments and roadways for approximately 1½ miles and the construction of two major overpass bridges.

The Rt. 295, Section 7G project was a major piece of the NJDOT’s overall plan to link Rt. 295 with Rt. 195 near Trenton. This segment of work constructed a new Rt. 295 from just north of Kuser Road to the proposed Rt. 295/195 Interchange.

The work under this contract consisted of the reconstruction of Interchange 100 of the Garden State Parkway. Roadway work included the widening of existing Northbound and Southbound roadways within the interchange area, and the relocation and reconstruction of N.J. State Route 33 and 66.
