Project Details

This project involved the reconstruction of interchanges 14 & 17 on Interstate Rt. 295 in Gloucester County, New Jersey. Each of the two interchange reconstructions involved the demolition of an existing bridge and the construction of a replacement bridge over existing Interstate 295 while maintaining traffic at all times.

The demolition of the existing bridges required special consideration with regard to the protection of the traveling public while working over the existing interstate highway. The new bridges consisted of conventional piers and abutments founded on steel H-piles driven to rock. The construction required substantial planning for staged construction. The replacement bridges were double spanned structures consisting of steel beams and concrete decks. The interchange construction also included a great deal of roadway construction, embankment construction, drainage, paving, and the installation of several proprietary retaining wall structures.

This project was completed on time and within budget.
