NJ Transit Main Line 2nd Track

This project involves the construction of two miles of new rail track between Paterson Station and Paterson Junction, adjacent to an active track, on the Main & Pascack Valley Line. The major scope of work consists of constructing over 4,000 linear feet of cast-in-place concrete soldier pile retaining walls. The soldier piles are strengthened by 468 drilled and grouted earth anchors. The soldier piles are set into 36” diameter drilled rock shafts, ranging from 10 to 35 feet in depth.

A large relieving platform was also constructed to protect an existing combined brick sewer from the loading of the additional track. The platform substructure consists of 80’ long, 54” diameter caissons which were installed by Rotary Drill Method. All rock shafts and caissons were installed by our crews and equipment.

Two new steel bridge spans were constructed in order to carry the new rail line over existing roadways. These bridges span over Getty Avenue & Main Street. We also demolished an existing overhead concrete bridge at Hazel Street, and then rebuilt it, in order to allow for enough horizontal clearance along the new second track. Major drainage improvements were also constructed throughout the site, including a several hundred foot long, 6’ x 6’ concrete channel built into a rock cut.

This project also involves the reuse of excavated soils in accordance with an approved Soil Reuse Plan, and the implementation of a Project Health & Safety Plan. This project was completed on time and within budget.
