This project involved the demolition of the existing NJ Transit Hazlet Station along the NJ Coast Line and the reconstruction of a new high level platform. The existing platform and parking facilities had to remain operational throughout the entire project duration requiring extensive staging and coordination of work forces.
Platform construction was located near the existing operational tracks, so a majority of the work had to be done during train slow downs and track outages. The new platform is made of precast concrete panels on top of a structural steel frame, which is supported by concrete foundations. The foundations were precast off site and delivered to the jobsite, so we could pick them off the trucks and set them quickly during the track outage time periods we were given.
The platforms were then topped with glass shelters, a steel canopy and roof system, benches, trash cans, signage and ticket vending machines. The station also required extensive electrical work for the lighting, communications systems, and electronic signage.
In addition to the platform construction we also performed all of the site work for the new station including new parking lots, reconstruction of approach roadways, sidewalks, walls and stairs. The entire facility is now handicap accessible.
This project also involved the reuse of excavated soils in accordance with an approved Soil Reuse Plan and the implementation of a Project Health & Safety Plan. The project was completed under budget and on time.
