Project Details

The work of this contract consisted of the construction of the Burlington County Solid Waste Facility located in Florence Township. The contract was broken down into four stages, each with its own completion date and liquidated damages. The major items of construction associated with this contract were site clearing & grading, drainage facilities, landfill development, and building construction.

The landfill development required mass excavations in clay to design elevations. Drainage materials and a 2’ thick sand filter layer were installed above the entire compacted clay liner. Also constructed were several sedimentation basins and drainage basins. Due to the project location and mass excavations, wetlands mitigation was required.

This project included many items besides the construction of the landfill:

  • Maintenance, disposal and administration buildings
  • Scale house and scales
  • Elevated water tank and water distribution system
  • Leachate treatment facility and 200,000 gallon leachate storage tank
  • Access roads, parking lots and drainage facilities

The project was completed on time and within budget.
