Project Details

This contract known as Amtrak’s FHD was the first of five major construction contracts which affected the Amtrak mainline tracks between Philadelphia and Newark. The area covered by this contract was along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor from Trenton Station, extending 15 miles to the north.

Work within Amtrak’s right of way consisted of site preparation, earthwork, removal of existing ballast, placement of new subballast and ballast, drainage improvements, catenary foundations and steel catenary structures.

The drainage improvements included ditch clearing and construction, installation of pipes and manholes, and reconstruction of existing drainage structures.

Harms’ crews performed the majority of the demolition and new construction of the Catenary system along this stretch of mainline. Harms constructed new Catenary, Signal, and Guy Anchor foundations, and installed the new Catenary structures on these foundations.

All of the work on this contract required extensive coordination with Amtrak’s safety personnel and work forces. Most of the work was completed under the strict requirements of Site Specific Work Plans, and was performed nights and evenings. The project was completed on time and within budget.
