Project Details

This project involved the construction of a new 2½ mile stretch of New Jersey Rt. 24 extending Rt. 24 and tying into Interstate Rt. 287. The project required the construction of five new highway bridges, 800,000 cy of excavation and placement of on-site material, together with the construction of 750,000 cy of imported embankment material from off-site. The project also included 200,000 cy of wet excavation and backfilling and the construction of over 110,000 tons of asphalt pavement.

The project involved a great deal of drainage and utility construction including the construction of several major culverts requiring dewatering and cofferdams. Additionally, there were a number of intersections requiring traffic signalization. A portion of the project site contained contaminated materials which were excavated and removed.

Health and Safety plans were developed and implemented. Several of the bridges were constructed over existing Interstate Rt. 287 while traffic was maintained at all times. Close coordination with law enforcement officials and traffic control methods were essential in protecting the welfare of the traveling public. Because the roadway was located in close proximity to residential areas, this project also included the supply and erection of a substantial amount of concrete noise barrier.

This project was completed on time and within budget.
